Shark Doodles
I've been doing some design work for my lovely fiance this weekend, and it involves drawing sharks. Lots and lots of sharks... [insert menacing 'Jaws' shark music here].

Things I'm Lovin' Lately...
Working on secret squirrel projects... more on those later!
Finally moving into our own place after 12 months (sorry Mum & Dad, I love you but space is good...!) which has the bonus of coming with a view like this! (That's Wellington harbour for those who might not know).
and drawings I did 20 years ago!
Feelin' proud as C trains and fundraises hard for the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge in May, and having some fun coming up with t-shirt logos for the team. (Not that they got used, but still...!)
Getting my very own 'creating' room... there's my sewing machine, my computers, my printers, all my art supplies, my mannequin... yippeeeee! (That's all organised chaos people, don't judge!).
Lots of good vibes these last couple of weeks. What about you?

Love in the Funniest Places
While wandering back to the office yesterday after getting some lunch, I found myself walking behind a man who had unsuspectingly sat on a piece of red thread, and it was stuck to his bum forming the shape of a heart. It looked something like this. Unfortunate for him, quite possibly. Highly amusing for myself? Most definitely.

Experi-Mental
I've been experimenting with a slightly more abstracted style then I normally draw with. And then the paints came out. I hate painting. Only because I always feel I ruin my drawings once they're painted. Must practice some more. Practice, practice, practice...
Resolutions - Making Progress
Remember how I said one of my 'resolutions' (if I have to call it that), is to get a bit more serious about my drawing and start an online shop? Well yesterday I took a major leap in that direction because I got a new toy.
After a lot of research and moollah, I am now the very excited new owner of a Canon Pixma Pro 9500 mark II printer, which in a nutshell means when it comes to getting top quality prints made of my drawings, I can do it myself instead of forking out squillions for someone else to do it. I have full control. Yusss! It has 10 pigment ink cartridges so the prints won't fade like regular home printer ink, and it's designed especially for photography and fine art printing, both A4 and A3. Yikes! Do I sound like a walking sales brochure much?
So here's to the start of my little enterprise. Just gotta pull finger and get some things drawn that are suitable for selling!

Draw What You See, Not What You Know
'Legs in bath, taps in reflection'
Many years ago, aged 8, while struggling to draw a paua shell, my art teacher said, 'Draw what you see, not what you know.' So yesterday, in the bath, I did just that.

The Lost & Forgotten
I recently found this drawing of mine from a few years back - for some reason I'd scanned it onto the computer at work, then of course buggered off overseas and forgotten all about it. I do love my sketchy, free-hand bird drawings, but gimme a ruler and I can have lots of fun too!
Sorry if it's a bit fuzzy, I no longer have the original, who knows where that ended up!

Crack-o-Dawn
'Jaw bone' Ink on cotton rag paper
I have started working at a cafe in the little township here on Salt Spring, which means 4.30am starts for me. Yes, you read that right. I'm on the road by 5, dodging deer in the glimmering dawn light and trying to keep my eyes propped open in front of the steering wheel by blasting my eyeballs with the air-con. All of this while sitting on the 'wrong' side of the car and driving on the 'wrong' side of the road. Yeah, still haven't quite got the hang of that yet. Not the safest or most ideal situation I tell you, but we do these things, especially when it's a means to an ends, right? I just keep telling myself, 6 more weeks. Just 6 more weeks. 6 more weeks til our European jaunt. That means 2 and a half months til I'm home, like HOME home, New Zealand home! I'm just a teensy bit excited...!

Moonlight Sketches
I couldn't sleep last night, so I sketched. I sketched by moonlight, and watched it fall on sleeping faces.

Quick Line Drawing
Love, is having someone to gallop around with playing tag and hide-n-seek. Love, is sharing your special pattern of spots with another. Love, is having someone lick your butt for you. Nice.
