Read It

Feel like educating yourself? These books are totally worth the feelings of doom and gloom you have after reading them, and are all really interesting reads (once you've gone back and re-read most paragraphs 3 times just to decipher the big words).

I don't particularly want this blog to become political or controversial in any way whatsoever, there are certainly a million other places you can go for that stuff. But lately I've been learning that it's so important to not stick your head in the sand over matters that, even though they may be far away, still have an affect over all of us. Nothing is ever what it seems. Don't be the sucker that thinks it is.

And after all that's done, go and get crafty. Much more fun to think about!

Book I'm Lovin' - MaryKate & Ashley Olsen 'Influence'

Ok so I can feel you cringing already as you read this heading, and I did too when I first saw this book, but once I started reading I must say I was totally surprised, it's a great read!
What you don't realise from looking at the cover is that it is filled with fantastic, insightful interviews by the twins of famous and not so famous designers in all genres - fashion, interiors, photography, artisitic, exhibitions and more. It is more about the people that inspire them, and only a small part about themselves. The bonus is that there are pages and pages of lovely glossy photos, sketches, drawings, candid letters and personal quotes.
It doesn't matter that the designers featured are generally the creme de la creme of the design world, the interviews give you insights into their often humble beginnings and stories of starting out in their fields, and I'm all for that!

NYPL

I have discovered a fantastic resource that I think all creative brains should know about! I followed a link from the Design By the Book feature on Designsponge, which took me to the online digital image catalogues of the New York Public Library website. If you are just cruising on the net, in need of some inspiration in any shape or form, or undertaking specific research on a topic, these catalogues are super brilliant, check it all out here!

Oh The Places You'll Go...

Today is a fantastic day, a parcel from my sister arrived on my doorstep. Yayy, lots of goodies!
One of the things inside was this wee Dr. Seuss book, 'Oh The Places You'll Go'.
Seeing as I'm now living in Perth at the start of my O.E., it is very appropriate! So stoked, you're never too old for a little Dr. Seuss! :)
'...You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go...'
